I haven't found what causes it, but I do know that the Burt's Bees HONEY is the only lip balm I've found that prevents it from happening. It's getting harder to find - hope it's not being discontinued. :(

Rated 1 out of 5 by NClark from They ruined a perfect product. The new / reformulated version of this is awful. :( I've emptied probably dozens of tubes of this over more than a decade. At any given time, a tube lives in my pocket, my purse, at my desk, and in my bathroom. The recent change of scent / texture (you can tell it's the new version bc of the 'benzyl cinnamate' at the end of the ingredients) is absolutely horrible. It's now a fake "?melon?" smell that reeks of ammonia/ urine. Why change the perfect warm honey scent that this had previously? I could learn to deal with that, except the texture is also now terrible. This used to be a stiff, waxy balm that would leave a sealed-in feeling of protection. Now it's just the same thin slippery feeling balm as all the others. I guess that's the fashion these days, but I really hate that feeling that it wears off in a few minutes. Not to be dramatic but this is SUCH a bummer for me. I've rated this a 1 only because it won't let me give zero stars, but I would if it were an option.

When I do have a cold sore outbreak, it’s perfect to soothe the irritation and burning, all while decreasing the time I have to deal with the cold sore. I hope Burt’s Bees keeps this one on their product list!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Candace from Burt's Bees Urine Lip Balm I was convinced someone had peed in my hotel room, however the next day I discovered it was because I put on this lip balm and the stench was under my nose the whole time. Bought two, threw them both in the bin after showing everyone I know how much they smelt like urine. Stick to Pomegranite, Vanilla Bean, Cherry, probably all of them except this one.
